I shot this last summer when I was living in Encinitas - a beach town in northern San Diego. It was pretty cloudy all summer, and I shot a ton of surfing photos, then I remembered how to use my macro lenses. It felt good.

Yes, they are dirty old skate shoes, but they are Vans, and I love 'em. Anybody whoever grew up skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding knows that feeling of wearing your favorite pair of Vans. They are more than just a brand, they're an attitude, a lifestyle, an old school identity that has transcended with classic style. I once fell in love with a boy because I first noticed him wearing a pair of classic checkerboard slip ons. Sometimes, a dirty old pair of skate shoes can change your whole life.

I flew on one of these guys to a tiny old mining town called McCarthy, and then hiked the Kennicott Glacier. Note: when hiking glaciers, invest money in a good pair of crampons, or you'll be sorry.

The majority of people who call themselves photographers these days have most likely never stepped into a darkroom. I'm sure the average person who buys a fancy DSLR has never wanted to pull their hair out, screaming, and cursing God- in a completely lightproof room- as they try to load their negatives onto those tedious reels and into little containers. I doubt they have been covered in developer and fixer, praying that their negatives will come out. I might be wrong, bit I'm also going to go ahead and presume they have never enlarged 120 film onto ortho sheet film, and cursed the jerk next to them in the darkroom who didn't turn off their cell phone, and ruined the 3.00 piece of film you've been working on printing.

These are Cyanotype prints that I made in an Alternative Processes class I took with my amazing professor, Melanie Walker, while I was working towards my BFA in photo at CU Boulder. It was by far one of my favorite art classes because it was just so much fun, and there was so much room for crazy experimentation, which I really enjoy. Enlarging negatives and drawing on paper with wax crayons, sewing into the paper, making collages and cutting up photos with emulsion lifts. I love it. I love photography and I love the darkroom. I love making stuff. I don't love Photoshop.

I’m very intrigued with OIL. The role that oil plays in our everyday lives, on this planet and the massive scale of overconsumption by humans. So, I’ve been playing with different forms of oil and studying the reactions that occur when you place it with other substances. I think it looks pretty. It’s a good thing no one really reads my blog, otherwise I’d be paranoid that someone might steal my ideas.

Like Watching Paint Dry

Sometimes my life feels like I am watching paint dry, or maybe I feel more like dry old paint on a rusty nail. But I think that I'm a nice colour at least, or I have interesting texture. The oxidation process that turns nails to rust is the same that turns my hair platinum shades of blonde. I love the colours of old doors and wooden structures that have seen more years of weathering than my short twenty-six year old life. Door knobs and fence posts abandoned homes haunted by ghosts, churches in fields and old wagon wheels. Stagecoaches and tractors...

Greetings! After much procrastination I have finally installed my artwork at Lucy's Bistro in Babylon Village. For those of you who live more exciting places, this is on Long Island. Lucy's is a great little cafe tucked in an alley way with live music, a great wine list and tasty food, and my artwork of adourning the walls!

Desperately missing Colorado and my adventures gallavanting around the Southwest, I decided to juxtapose a series of shots from my vast travels west of the Mississippi with super macro shots of cactus and flowers from around the world. They are framed in old white window panes, a very neat creation that i have envisioned for some time.

The show will run until November, whenI will have an artist reception from 4-7pm, (I have to finalize the date with the owners) where you can come and drink wine, eat cheese, and purchase artwork. Hope to see you there.
